The Giant Panda Museum, located within the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base, is designed as an international, modern, and world-class museum with functions for science education, public engagement, exhibitions, collection and preservation, and academic research. The overall theme of the museum reflects “Humans · Giant Pandas · Nature in Harmony,” allowing visitors to enjoy sightseeing and entertainment while also learning about endangered species. It aims to inspire awareness of environmental and wildlife protection, spark a spirit of scientific exploration, and enhance public scientific literacy.
The theme is presented through models of a panda cub and a panda brain. A touch-interactive wall shows the structure of the panda’s brain. This installation is also part of the “Write a Love Letter to the Panda” feature, where visitors learn the basic structure of a panda’s brain while addressing their questions. Inside the brain model, touchscreens allow visitors to select and access information.
A life-like giant panda model captures visitors’ attention. As they approach, the panda is illuminated, and its calls from different life stages-newborn/juvenile, mating, pregnancy, and old age-can be heard. Behind it, a projection introduces these four key stages of the panda’s life cycle. Sensors detect when visitors come close, triggering the panda’s calls and activating the projection to share information about each stage.
