嘉义市立博物馆，总楼地板面积1,639坪，主要的展示空间，集中在一楼、三楼、及四楼。而主题的设置上，一楼为地质厅，三楼为化石厅，四楼则为艺术厅。在主题安排上，由嘉义的先决大自然条件，介绍地质形成与阿里山美景，再进入与地质息息相关的化石区，最后才是后天发展的人文艺术，时间上有由远到近、由自然到人文的意义。

The Chiayi City Museum has a total floor area of 1,639 square meters, with its main exhibition spaces located on the first, third, and fourth floors. The first floor features the Geology Hall. The third floor features the Fossil hall. And the fourth floor features the Art Hall. The thematic arrangement begins with Chiayi’s natural foundations, introducing geological formations and the beauty of Alishan, then moves to fossils closely liked with geology, and finally to the development of human art and culture. This arrangement reflects a timeline from past to present, and a journey from nature to humanity.
